牧人和大海

　　一个牧人在海岸边放羊，他望着风平浪静的大海，就心血来潮想要出海经商。他用卖掉羊群的钱买了一批酸枣装到船上，就起航了。谁知途中暴风雨突然来袭，船只随时都有沉没的危险，牧人只好把所有货物都抛入大海。费了九牛二虎之力，他才死里逃生，回到岸上。不久之后的一天，他看到一个人站在岸边对着平静的大海赞叹不已，就打断那个人的话说道：“老兄，看样子，大海又想吃枣了，所以才会这么平静！”

　　不肯与人有福同享的人，也别指望别人与你有难同当。

　　能够承认自己的缺点，是值得庆幸的事。

　　这一天，小偷的母亲在人群中捶胸顿足，非常伤心。这时，小偷向法官求情，希望在临死之前能和母亲说几句悄悄话。等到母亲走近，他突然用力衔住了母亲的耳朵，撕了下来。疼痛的母亲大声斥责小偷大逆不道。小偷回答说：“如果你在我第一次偷课本回来的那次就能狠狠地教训我一顿，我也不会有今天这么可耻的下场。”

　　年幼时接受的教育对人格的塑造很重要。

　　没过几天，妻子就回来了。丈夫问她，和娘家的人相处得怎么样。妻子回答说：“非常不好，家里的管家和牧人都很讨厌我。”

　　丈夫说：“哦，我的妻子，果真是如此吗？如果连那些早出晚归、整天和牲口打交道的人都不喜欢你的话，那么那些每天都跟你在一起相处的人们又会怎么样呢？”

　　稻草可以告诉我们风向；现象体现本质。

　　几个渔夫合力把沉甸甸的鱼网拉上了岸。他们眼看丰收在望，个个兴高采烈，欢呼雀跃。当鱼网被打开之后，他们大失所望，因为里面的鱼少得可怜，其余都是一些沙石。渔夫们自然十分沮丧，倒不全是因为收获不多，而是之前的期望很高，面对这样的结果他们一时间接受不了。这时，他们中间有一位饱经风霜的老人说话了：“我的伙伴们，别再灰心沮丧、抱怨命运了。快乐和痛苦本身就是一对姐妹。刚才我们太过于兴奋了，所以现在才会如此伤心难过。”

　　生活不可能一帆风顺。

　　有一个鞋匠单靠制鞋、修鞋已经难以维持生计，生活越来越贫困，于是决定改行，他开始装成医生在异乡帮人看病。他出售一种解毒药，声称可以解百毒，并用各种花言巧语来为自己招揽生意。人们相信了他的谎言，还把他称为“名医”。他的生意越来越红火。

　　很不幸，一次鞋匠自己得了重病。正好，他所在地方的国王想要实验他的医术。国王拿起一杯装着水的杯子，对鞋匠说：“这里面掺着你自己的解毒药，现在我把它赏赐给你喝。”贪生怕死的鞋匠马上将自己卖假药的事情和盘托出：他只是靠人们的愚蠢赢得名誉的，根本没有真才实学。国王马上昭告臣民：“你们竟然如此放心地把自己的脑袋交给一个只会做鞋子的人，你们不觉得自己都犯错了吗？”

　　一定要小心那些不熟悉自己业务的人。

　　豹和牧羊人

　　一头豹不小心掉进了一个陷阱里，有些牧羊人路过看见了，不仅没有帮他摆脱困境，反而用木棍和石头打他。但也有很多好心的村民给豹子一些食物，帮助他延长生命。晚上，牧羊人回家了，恢复体力的豹子从陷阱里跳出来跑掉了。

　　豹子在家中休养了几天，等恢复元气之后，就跑到牧羊人所在的村子把攻击过他的牧羊人全都杀死了，还咬死很多羊。其余的村民非常害怕，就主动把自家的羊送到豹子面前，乞求他只把羊吃掉，而不要伤害他们的性命。豹子回答道：“我是恩怨分明的，谁攻击我，谁给我食物，我心里记得很清楚。你们不用担心，我只报复伤害过我的人。”

　　伤害才会产生敌意。

　　Afterafewdayshecameforthandslaughteredthecattle，and，killingtheShepherdswhohadattackedhim，ragedwithangryfury.Thentheywhohadsparedhislife，fearingfortheirsafety，surrenderedtohimtheirflocksandbeggedonlyfortheirlives.TothemthePanthermadethisreply，“Irememberalikethosewhosoughtmylifewithstones，andthosewhogavemefoodaside，therefore，yourfears.Ireturnasanenemyonlytothosewhoinjuredme.”

　　传说，人出生的时候随身带着两个袋子。一个袋子比较小，装满了别人的缺点；一个袋子比较大，装满了自己的缺点。小的袋子挂在胸前，大的袋子则挂在背后。因此，人们总是能看到别人的不足，而发现不了自己的缺点。

　　人总是看不到自己的缺点。

　　王子和画中的狮子

　　有一个国王非常宠爱他的独生子，一个身体健康、喜欢打猎的青年。一天，国王梦见儿子被一头凶恶的狮子撕得粉碎。他非常担忧梦会变成现实，于是就修建了一座富丽堂皇的宫殿，将儿子软禁在里面。为了让儿子开心，国王在宫殿四周的墙壁上画满了各种各样的动物，其中就有狮子。

　　年轻的王子看到画中的狮子感到非常气愤，说道：“哦，你一定就是那个可恶的家伙！为了你和我父亲那个荒唐的梦，我才像囚犯一样每天都被关在这里，生活不得自由。我真是恨死你了！”说着，王子抡起拳头就向画中的狮子砸去，好像要一拳将他打死。不料，一根木刺扎进了他的手指。手指很快就肿起来了，王子也高烧不退，昏迷不醒，没过几天，就去世了。

　　面对困难，我们要勇敢面对而不是逃避。

　　一个男巫坐在集市上，声称自己可以预知任何一个路人的未来。这时，一个人急急忙忙地跑过来对他说：“你家的门被破坏了，家里所有的东西也全被偷走了。”一听到这个消息，男巫再也坐不住了，马上就往家里赶。他的邻居看到他急匆匆地回来，就对他说：“哦，你在这呢！你不是说自己可以预言别人的命运吗？怎么反而不知道自己的未来呢？”

　　这则寓言针对那些自己的生活一团糟，却喜欢“关心”别人的事情的人。

　　有一位老妇人患了眼疾，双目失明了。她找到一位医生，并与其达成协议：如果医生可以使她的眼睛痊愈就付给他报酬；如果医生做不到就只能一无所获。这个医生每次来给老妇人治病都会用药膏封住她的眼睛，趁她看不见的时候，顺手牵羊把她家里的东西偷走。当医生把老妇人家里的东西全都偷走以后，治疗就完成了。于是，他向老夫人索要之前协定好的报酬。可是，老妇人拒绝支付。意见相左的两人找来了执政官评理。老妇人理直气壮地说：“我只答应医生治好我的眼疾才付给报酬，但是经过治疗，我的视力反而比以前更差了，而不是更好。因为从前我可以看见自己家里的东西，可是现在我什么也看不到。”

　　邪恶的人无意中就会原形毕露。

　　TheOldWoman，whensherecoveredhersightandsawnoneofhergoodsinherhouse，wouldgivehimnothing.ThePhysicianinsistedonhisclaim，and，asshestillrefused，summonedherbeforetheJudge.TheOldWoman，standingupintheCourt，argued，“Thismanherespeaksthetruthinwhathesays；forIdidpromisetogivehimasumofmoneyifIshouldrecovermysight:butifIcontinuedblind，Iwastogivehimnothing.NowhedeclaresthatIamhealed.IonthecontraryaffirmthatIamstillblind；forwhenIlosttheuseofmyeyes，Isawinmyhousevariouschattelsandvaluablegoods:butnow，thoughheswearsIamcuredofmyblindness，Iamnotabletoseeasinglethinginit.”

　　Thefableshowsthatbytheirownactions，wickedpeoplecanunwittinglyserveaswitnessesagainstthemselvesinacourtoflaw.

　　有个小偷住进了一家旅店，一连住了好几天，本来指望能顺手牵羊偷些东西来付清账单，苦于一直找不到合适的机会。一天，小偷看见旅店掌柜穿着一件崭新、精美的衣服独自坐在旅店门口，他心里暗喜：机会来了。于是，他就走过去，坐到掌柜身边，和他闲谈。他们谈了很久，都觉得有些疲倦了。随后，小偷打了一个哈欠，并像狼一样嗥叫起来。掌柜听到很是惊奇，问道：“你的声音为什么这样吓人呢?”小偷答道：“好吧，我就告诉你吧。不过你要先抓好我的衣服，否则我会把它们撕成碎片的。我不知道我的声音为什么会如此恐怖，是上天对我罪行的惩罚还是什么别的原因。但是，我非常清楚的一点是：只要我连打三个哈欠，我真的会变成一只狼，向人扑去。”

　　说完，他就打了第二个哈欠，并且还像刚才那样嗥叫。旅店掌柜听了他的话之后，就信以为真，转身想离开。可小偷紧紧抓住他的衬衣，开始恳求他：“好心的先生，你别把我一个人丢下啊！不然我变成狼时，会把它们撕破的。”刚说完，他就开始打第三个哈欠。掌柜害怕小偷真的变成狼会马上把他吃掉，就惊慌失措地丢下自己的新衣，逃进旅馆躲藏起来，牢牢地锁上大门。而小偷则拿起地上的新衣得意地回家去了。

　　一个富翁曾经开办了一个免费向公众开放的剧场。他贴出告示：如果谁能在这里表演出新奇又好看的节目，将会得到丰厚的奖金。

　　这个消息顿时吸引了来自全国各地的各类表演者。其中有一个以说俏皮话闻名的小丑，他声称自己要表演一个大家见所未见的节目。消息传开后，人们纷纷到剧场来看个究竟。那天，剧场里挤满了人。不一会儿，小丑只身出现在舞台上，没有任何道具，也没有协助的人。所有的人都在期待这场全新的表演，剧场里的气氛紧张极了。他突然把头弯到胸前，然后像小猪一样叫了起来。他的声音是如此惟妙惟肖，以至于观众都认定他的外衣下面一定藏了一只小猪。可是当他把衣服打开后，里面什么也没有。大家顿时报以热烈的掌声。

　　突然，人群中有一个农夫大喊道：“帮帮我吧，赫尔克里斯，你一定不会被这样的小把戏糊弄的。”然后，他说自己也可以表演相同的节目，而且会更加自然。

　　到了第二天，观看的人更多了，但是他们更多的是来看农夫的笑话的。演出开始了，两位表演者同时站在了舞台上。小丑表演完毕后，依旧赢得了大家的喝彩。轮到农夫了，只见他装出身上藏有小猪的样子（他确实这么做了），然后偷偷地揪了一下小猪的耳朵，感到疼痛的小猪马上就尖叫起来。可是，观众们都说小丑的叫声要比他的像得多，就要把他赶下舞台。不服气的农夫马上把藏在身上的小猪拿出来，对观众说：“看，这就是最公正的评判者。”

　　人们经常大肆称赞那些模仿者，而对那些真正的东西不屑一顾！

　　Onthemorrowastilllargercrowdassembledinthetheater，butnowpartialityfortheirfavoriteactorverygenerallyprevailed，andtheaudiencecamerathertoridiculetheCountrymanthantoseethespectacle.Bothoftheperformersappearedonthestage.TheBuffoongruntedandsqueakedawayfirst，andobtained，asontheprecedingday，theapplauseandcheersofthespectators.NexttheCountrymancommenced，andpretendingthatheconcealedalittlepigbeneathhisclothes（whichintruthhedid，butnotsuspectedbytheaudience）contrivedtotakeholdofandtopullhisearcausingthepigtosqueak.TheCrowd，however，criedoutwithoneconsentthattheBuffoonhadgivenafarmoreexactimitation，andclamoredfortheCountrymantobekickedoutofthetheater.
